Exam & Cardiac Surgery Overview
  • Discuss normal blood flow through the myocardium
  • Review coronary perfusion and walls each coronary artery supplies
  • Discuss the difference between on and off pump coronary artery bypass grafting
Hemodynamic Monitoring
  • Discuss the use of the pulmonary artery catheter & interventions to manage complications
  • Discuss the hemodynamic findings of different shock states (Cardiogenic, hypovolemic, Vasoplegic)
  • Describe vasoactive infusions including vasopressors, positive & negative inotropes and vasodilators and the effects on hemodynamics
  • Discuss the use of mechanical circulatory support post-surgery
Complications of Cardiac Surgery
  • Discuss strategies for bleeding reversal & transfusions
  • Describe post operative MI, cardiogenic shock, cardiac tamponade, heart failure, dysrhythmias & other complications
  • Discuss the differences between inferior, right ventricular, anterior, lateral & posterior wall MIs + pharmacology utilized with ACS
Valve Dysfunctions & Procedures
  • Differentiate valvular regurgitation (insufficiency) and stenosis
  • Discuss treatment modalities, including transcatheter & surgical options for aortic, mitral & tricuspid valve dysfunction

  • Describe management of aortic dissections and Type A & B Aortic Aneurysms
  • Discuss post operative vascular complications
  • Discuss post operative glucose, airway & respiratory management
